Siempre me pareció un poco triste decir que algo está "de moda", pero bueno, si tiene que estarlo, está y punto. Pues bueno, siguiendo en esta líneaindie, la canción que más se pudo escuchar el verano pasado fue la de Young folks de Peter, Björn & John con su pegadizo silbido y hace un par de años, en el 2006, Franz Ferdinand arrasó con su Take me out.

¿Cuál ha sido la de este verano?

Desde aquí propongo un par de canciones que para mí son las claras candidatas a ganar este concurso:

La primera de ellas es Time to pretend, del psicodélico dúo neoyorkino MGMT. El grupo se basa en ritmos pegadizos y repetitivos hasta la saciedad y con canciones como esta o como Kids se han convertido en uno de los grupos revelación del año.

La segunda canción es de los ingleses Ting Tings y se llama That's not my name. Igual de pegadiza o más que la anterior, That's not my name habla de una pobre chica de cuyo nombre nunca se acuerdan sus pretendientes... Grupo a seguir, sobre todo las canciones Great DJ y Shut up and let me go, muy recomendables.

Y bien, ¿Cuál os parece la canción indie del verano? Se aceptan sugerencias...

Madonna, Spears y Aguilera en la ya antológica actuación de 2003.

Como cada año, la MTV celebra por estas fechas dentro de sus numerosos fiestorros el que es probablemente el más rancio de todos. Los Video Music Awards, donde, como su propio nombre indica, se dan los premios a los mejores videos. Siempre segun el criterio los mandamases de la MTV, claro. O sea, que se los dan a quien les dan audiencia, no al que haya hecho el mejor video.

Poco a poco se van conociendo los nombres de quienes estarán presentes en la gala y actuarán en ella o serán los encargados de dar los premios. Ya se sabe que sera la Spears quien abra el show (Señor, libranos del mal. Amén) y que será el rapero sin personalidad Kayne West quien ponga fin al festejo. Digo sin personalidad porque el año pasado juró y perjuró que jamás volvería a ir a unos premios de la MTV. ¿Cuanto le habrán pagado para que cambie de opinión? No hay dos formas de verlo, el rap ya no es lo que era y su mundillo está contaminado por peseteros de nulo talento como éste y otros tantos que acudirán también al la gala como T.I. o Lil Wayne.

También podremos ver a la nueva lolita sensación del pop chicle Katy Perry, que dijo hace no mucho que le gustaría morrearse con Miley Cirus (la Hannah Montana), que también estará allí. Así me gusta, dejando claritas sus intenciones desde un principio. Rihanna estará allí actuando también, aunque no sabemos si llevará su dichoso paraguas. Lo que si es seguro es que la eterna imitadora de Beyoncé irá ligerita de ropa, para no perder las buenas costumbres e interpretará una canción que aparecerá en el próximo álbum del mencionado T.I. llamada "Paper Trail.

Aguilera también estará allí, y ya se sabe que interpretará su mayor hit, el que la dió a conocer mundialmente y dejó a Britney en evidencia: Gennie In A Bottle. Podremos ver también al nuevo produto de la factoría Disney, los Jonas Brothers.

Entre los presentadores podremos encontrar a Jamie Foxx, Chace Crawford(¿?), Ashlee Simpson, John Legend, Kobe Bryant, Leona Lewis, Paris Hilton (¡que superhipermega guay!), Slash, Taylor Swift, Shia LaBeouf, Lauren Conrad, Heidi Montag, Spencer PrattMichael Phelps (si, el nadador), Miley Cyrus, Lindsay Lohan, Scarlett Johansson, Ciara, Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu (¿?), Kristen Stewart (¿?), Robert Pattinson (¿?), Taylor Lautner (¿?) y Christopher "McLovin" Mintz-Plasse (¿?).

So, my friend from Texas who was orginially from San Jose imed me asking if I knew a scary island called Socotra Island. It's the most alien-looking place on Earth. I'll probably post pictures in the next blog, or you can just google it.

Anyways, two new updates in the world of Huyen. This morning I got an op exam and now I'm wearing contacts! But, my eyes look mega-chinkier than they did before. Never noticed when I had my glasses on. I think I look better with glasses now ... but it is easier to wear contacts because I don't constantly have to push my glasses back up from slipping down my nose. The funny thing is, while I'm wearing my contacts I kept thinking I was wearing glasses and I would raise my hands to my face to push my imaginary glasses up. Then I would realize I don't have glasses on and think, 'haha, that's kinda funny'.

The second thing is, I'm addicted to Rihanna's music. I love Cry so much. It's such a relate-able song. I also like Question Existing and Good Girl Gone Bad. The sad thing is though, you know that song she sang with Maroon 5? (I love that song too, btw). I was looking it up on imeem and there's so many people who's bashing her, calling her a bitch for fucking up the song. I honestly think, she didn't fuck it up. She didn't sing terribly and make it sound horrible. There are two versions people!! Listen to Maroon 5's if you don't like Rihanna in it. I listened to both and they both sound the same. Pretty much the same concept and lyrics. Rihanna's version just has a girl's view in it.

I don't think she personally hurt those people either. But aye, it's their opinion. What can I do. Nothing.

I think I've found the perfect crown to become my back of the neck tattoo. For all of you who don't know, the day I turn 18 I want to grab my loved ones and go to a attoo parlor. I wanted my first tattoo to be a crown on the back of my neck. I wanted those conventional crowns but seeing this smoke crown (Crown Without A King) I think I want a replica. A smokey crown on the back of my neck. It's gon' be sickk.

Radiohead tends to take me to another world, plus I'm a sucker for clever metaphors. Using a house of cards to represent a fragile marriage... c'est magnifique! While I can understand that a lot of people hate Radiohead (some secretly, some not), that's almost even more reason to keep them on the list. Honorable mention to The White Stripes who would've taken this spot if I hadn't killed Icky Thump for myself by making it one of my ringtones.

There's something about Miley's brother singing about doing the nasty that really make you want to "shake it." It's catchy, it's fun and if you really pay attention it's pretty dirty!

17. You're a Wolf- Sea Wolf

Sometimes simple repetition tells the best story. With it's folky feel, soothing vocals, and the mesmerizing effect of the cello, Sea Wolf enamors their listeners.

16. Little Motel- Modest Mouse

While "Dashboard" is the critic's favorite, "Little Motel" is one of those songs that speaks to the soul. In this melancholy little work, Modest Mouse captures the essence of longing through their signature beats and chords.

15. Stripper- Sohodolls

This song is the definition of sexy. It's a take no prisoners, edge of your seat, burlesque-ish show stopper that will keep you begging for more.

14. Hard to Live in the City- Albert Hammond, Jr.

While The Strokes' First Impressions of Earth was a year too early to get a song on this list, their guitarist's solo album came just in time. While his fingers keep that familiar style, his vocals are a little raspier than Julian's and make this solo debut deep as well as intriguing.

13. Stronger- Kanye West

I think most of us can agree that Kanye kicks ass and even though you may have heard "Stronger" 1,000,000,000 times, you can still get down to it. Honorable mention to "Put On" with Young Jeezy and "American Boy" with Estelle.

12. One Week of Danger- The Virgins

Definitely a bedroom song. The way the guitar strums and the less than delicate words say it all.

11. The Queen and I- Gym Class Heroes

This is like the anthem for a girl's night out drinking... and it's got a sick beat.

10. Always Where I Need to Be- The Kooks

There's much to be said about an upbeat song about things working out with a nice little guitar solo. There's also something incredibly charming about British musicians whose accents come through when they sing. Verdict: all around top notch stuff.

9. Paper Planes- M.I.A.

Whether or not you like her other songs better, you can't deny that Paper Planes is just plain fun to listen to. And anyone who makes a powerful statement about our society will always make it onto any list of mine.

8. Piece of Me- Britney Spears

Using all the negative attention she's gotten and making it a hit is the smartest thing Britney has ever done. It' like slapping everyone in the face and saying "If you're gonna talk shit I'll just make money off that so fuck you!" You go, Brit!

7. Forever- Chris Brown

That Chris Brown is such a cutie and DAMN can he move! With a voice like his and a smooth beat backing him up, it's no wonder this charmer has won over so many young ladies (including Rihanna)

6. Miley Cyrus- The 7 Things I Hate About You

Miley has graduated from being a Disney kid and is becoming one of the sexiest little things in music. This song is cute, catchy, infectious and easy to relate to. I swear there's just something about Miley. And if Demi Lovato thinks she has a chance of becoming half as popular as Miley she has another thing coming.

5. I'm Like a Lawyer With the Way I'm Always Trying to Get You Off- Fall Out Boy

I'm not going to deny that I like Fall Out Boy anymore because, hell, they're pretty fucking great. Not only is this a great song, but they made the music video an advertisement for Invisible Children (an organization that helps children in Uganda that have been forced to fight as soldiers in Uganda). Fall Out Boy is talented and they definitely have their heads (and hearts... awww) in the right place.

4. Make It Wit Chu- Queens of the Stone Age

Definitley a bedroom song, "Make It Wit Chu" is sexy, dirty, and very different from a lot of the Queens other music. Still, even when they slow it down, Queens of the Stone Age rock. (How can they not when they write a song about doing it "anytime, anywhere"?)

3. Disturbia- Rihanna

Whatever the French were talking about when the mentioned that certain je ne sais quoi, Rihanna has got it. A chart topping master at only 20 years old, she has major star potential. Disturbia is amost like the new Thriller with it's sinister edge.

2. Viva la Vida- Coldplay

Love them or hate them, Coldplay finally broke away from the "it all kind of sounds alike" mold with Viva la Vida. The strings, the words, and the overall sounds of this song make it stand out among the rest.

1. How We Breathe- Pinback

This may be a surprising pick for #1 but it's really my personal favorite. They do something incredible with the guitar strings that's unlike anything I've ever heard before. It's as if the chords are consuming you during the few lines before the chorus. Definitely something to look into.

American song-writer and producer Antonio "L.A." Reid conceived the collaboration after a meeting with the founder of Stand Up to Cancer.

Reid co-produced the track with American singer Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, and the single was released on August 29, 2008.

Rihanna was spotted arriving for rehearsal at Radio City Music Hall in NYC yesterday. RiRi is scheduled to perform at Fashion Rocks which will air next next Tuesday Sept. 9.
